Gestational Diabetes | Virtual Clinic

Gestational diabetes should not rob you of the pure joy that pregnancy is. It is a manageable condition, and the great news is that it goes away once you deliver your baby.

For many years, I have had a special interest in helping pregnant women with the nutrition management of gestational diabetes. I have developed this virtual clinic program with the hope of creating an easy, comfortable way to access nutrition care from a registered dietitian.

Being diagnosed with gestational diabetes can be very stressful, but I feel it is important that as a mom-to-be, you know that you have not done anything wrong to cause gestational diabetes. Simply put, gestational diabetes occurs due to the extra demands that pregnancy places on the body. It does, however, need to be treated.

How a dietitian can help you with gestational diabetes

Most often, dietary intervention and nutrition care are the first line treatment for the management of gestational diabetes. Medication is usually only considered when diet alone is not sufficient to maintain optimal blood glucose levels.

A dietitian can help you make the necessary, evidence-based, dietary adjustments to keep your blood glucose levels stable without compromising the growth and development of your baby.

Through the clinic, you will receive a gestational diabetes toolkit, a personalised menu planning guide, recipes and my e-book: “Serving Potential on a Plate” … all about the introduction of family foods to your bub!

The Virtual Clinic Format

Initial Consultation & Education Session: 60 – 75 minutes

2nd consultation (3 days later): Meal plan handover (30 minutes)

3rd consultation: Review of blood glucose readings & meal planner adjustments

4th consultation check-in: 20 minutes

5th consultation check-in: 20 minutes

The consultation fees are based on medical aid rates. The first 2 consultations can be claimed directly from medical aid, provided savings funds are available. Thereafter, EFT payments will be required.
